Am planning to spend a week this winter in Dominican Republic.
Any and all tips will be much appreciated, since package tour is being
quoted at very low cost, but a lot of unknowns.
Warnings and bad experiences welcome, so they can be avoided.
Thanks in advance for all who respond.

None! Santo Domingo vies with Yugoslavia and Greece as the
friendliest of places.
Santo Domingo has an outstanding zoo.

. . . . I found Tito's Yugoslavia, Greece, Spain, and the Dominican
Republic to be outstandingly friendly. Too bad DejaNews lost
rec.travel as I had stories there.

Yes! It's certainly on my list! I'll be there in June and I expect to
encounter friendly and helpful natives as I have on each of my
several previous visits.
My 6/99 visit to Chicago was enhanced by friendly and helpful people.
Victoria and Vancouver are very friendly.
Some countries are noted for their friendly people, particularly
Turkey (where I've not been), Greece, and Spain. Yugoslavia was very
friendly but it not only no longer exists but is probably also not a
pleasant place to be.
In América, The Dominican Republic is probably the friendliest
followed by Brazil and Argentina.

We know what the person was asking. The complain is that the request is
inappropriate for one of the news groups being included.
rec.travel.europe is a site for discussion of travel in europe. Not
travel in other locations or discussions of politics.

Don't any Europeans ever go to Dominican Republic?
Then perhaps some may have advice, as requested?

They do,but nevertheless the n.g rec.travel.europe is about travel to and

Perhaps but it's so much better if they advice in a n.g dedicated to travel
in Carribean.
You seem to be misunderstanding how a n.g is working.
People from outside Europe may visit rec.travel.europe and European people
are perfectly freee to visit other n.g:s

It is certainly possible. However, it is impolite to distort the content
of the newsgroup with inquiries that are disjoint from its topics. The
OP was either ignorant (probable) or extremely impolite. The response
tried to quietly correct the error and noted that there were cross
posted groups where it would have been appropriate.
You, on the other hand, decided that the responder was a "dummy" and
thus decided to introduce insult into the discussion.

Perhaps he's just "geographically challenged", like me! (I
know it's not in Europe, but I'm not sure whether it's in
Central America or the Caribbean.)
