Is it really worth taking time away from a St Petersburg visit to spend in Vyborg?

A few more years and an international border will divide the two cities.

That really depends on your interests Bjorn.
-Some people like to go there to see the area that used to be Finnish
before the winter war.
-There is a nice park there, if you just want to relax and get out of
the city during the weekend. Heading out of the city in the weekends
are the Russian way after all;)
-After spending a while in St Petersburg, may be both St Petersburg and
Moscow, some of us are close to OD on old beautiful Cathedrals, Kremlin
and operathatre. In that case Vyborg is a nice and down to earth
alternative.
-If you don't have had an OD from kremlins jet, there is a nice (but
not great) kremlin in Vyborg
-The down Russian-down-to-earth experience include the hords of
Russians heading for their datchas (if you go in the weekend) and
umpriviliged Russians coming to the train stations to sell water, beer
or other things to train passangers.
