Default 3 persons share a double room. Is it possible?

I and my frens will travel in europe for a month. In order to reduce
our cost, 3 of us plan to share a private double room. Is this
possible? Will us been kick off by hostel?

You have to ask and arrange with the hotel. And yes it's near always
possible to either book a 3 bed room or arrange an extra bed in a double
room. But you need to know that you have to pay for it, contrary to US
and other countries outside Europe you aren't just allowed to stay as many
you like in a hotel room, it must be in concord with the hotel.

In France, Formule-1 hotels are paid by room, and have a double and single
bed, so yes it's possible.

In most cases it is probably possible, however you need to ask your hotel or
pension.

Hi,

yes...

Formule-1 hotels are the bomb in an odd kinda way...

they're cheap, ok clean, and have the basics covered... sink and tv
(local broadcast tv) shower and toilet down the hall... both of the auto
sanitize style invented in the paris on street toilets that have sensor
floors and spray themselves down...

parking.... they're autoroute oriented and parking is usually free.

price is by room not by person... a double with single upper... beds
that would make -great- kids room beds in the US.

lowbrow bread/coffee breakfast but it gets you going and down the road.

I whish we had them out on the interstates in the US (though with
satelite tv... out in the middle of noplace on route 80 in wyoming near
Little America would be a great spot IF it had satelite).

Hi,

it's probably just fine to tell your proprietor that you've got 3 people
and what bed arrangement you like.

twins with roll-away type beds are common.

my favorite little hotel in amsterdam has a bunch of tripple bedded singles.

I did a trip with 2 college buddies and we got sleeping space for 3
cheap all over...

I think florence/firenze was the cheapest at like 12$us total for all 3.

I just want to advise you that you should never try to sneak a third
person into a room in Europe without the knowledge of the hotel. This is
often done in the US, and there is no big problem there, and often the
hotel doesn't care. However, in many countries in Europe, there is a law
that all hotel guests must be registered with the police and the hotel
would be in big trouble if they allowed anyone to stay in a room without
reporting them. Therefore they will be very strict about this, and you
may very well find yourself under arrest.

and it is usually fairly cheap to legally add a third person --

Thanks so much!
Never though it's a serios thing in europe.
Where can i find the cheapest accomodation in europe?
I have been referring to lonely planet and let's go.
But i am sure all of their listed hostel will be full during june/july.
Try search in net, but what i got was tons of website.
Some of my frens suggested go to the cities tourist centre to book.
Or is there any book to intro?
Thanks~

Hi,

I'm a fan of the much maligned Let's Go...and they've got a decent web
site coming together btw...

the Europe Let's Go is full of good basic info.

but some things work a lot of places.

Amsterdam has both a great tourist office... there are hostel/hotel
runnners around the station... but in the 'dam I'd go to the tourist
office... done the same thing in Paris Gare du Nord.... they've got a
"budget" (hostel) and more upscale booking offices... in firenze they've
got a tourist office... but we got a room from an old guy in front of
the tourist office (there were LOTS of old guys hanging around in front
of the tourist office)... a pensione, hot water in the morning, cheap...
had a kitchen if we'd been there longer...this was the cheapest...
12$/day... munich has a tourist office in the station... opens noon on
sundays off season at least... but lots of decent newish hotels in the
area (like of new building in the 50s/60s)....

sometimes when I hit a city if I'm just going to be there a day or two
I'll just stay close to the station... why lug baggage... but if I'm
going to be in a city a while I'll hit the tourist office and find a
better hotel in a better location.

I use Let's Go mostly. I usually have no trouble finding rooms even in
the summer. You might want to call ahead a few days before your arrival
in each city to reserve a room. With Let's Go, you are most likely to
find vacancies further from the train station. I don't know why, but
most student backpackers cluster aroung the train station. Could it be
those heavy packs?

I prefer the Rough Guides, but any of the guides should be adequate for
finding accomodation. As noted, in many cases, one can call ahead to
reserve a space (perhaps giving a credit card number to hold the room).
If you are using official HI hostels, you can usually use their booking
network to reserve a place for your next city.

As for the backpackers, I suspect instead that it is due to the fact
that many of them are in a particular place for only a few days before
again hopping on the next train. I have stayed near Gare du Nord in
Paris, even though it is not my favorite neighborhood, just because it
is convenient for a short stay.

When i refer to let's go.
It stated single for $xx price, double for $xx price then extra bed for $xx.
Extra bed is only for children? or another extra person in the double room?
Thanks

Extra bed means an extra bed for anybody. Usually it's a rollaway bed or
cot.

and given the size of European hotel rooms that extra bed may well soak
up all the floor space. We have booked rooms for three [billed that way
- not as a double with an extra bed requested] and literally had to
crawl over beds to get to the bathroom or door. Sometimes you luck out
and get a 'family room' that is actually large enough for the 3 or 4
beds.
