Default 3 'Paris' Airports?

I am intending to fly to Paris. As I understand it Charles de Gaulle is
the main airport that services the city. However, on some of the lower
cost airlines I have seen reference to Paris Orly and Paris Beauvais.
Can anyone give a bit of info about how close / accessible these
airports are to Paris? Are they Paris airports on the same way that
Luton and Stansted are 'in' London?

TIA

Orly is the previous main Paris Airport. Beauvais is more distant

Orly is south of Paris, maybe more convenient than CDG. Beauvais is a
supermarket car-park halfway to Belgium.

What happened to Le Bourget? Is that now a supermarket car park?

Paris - Le Bourget Airport is now only used for general aviation (eg
business jets) and air shows. In 1977 it was closed to international
traffic and in 1980 to regional traffic.

It hosts the French Museum of Air and Space and, every other year, the
Paris Air Show.

Orly was one of the original Paris airports, and is a little bit to
the south. Beauvais is more like Luton or Stansted. Check out maps at

Most flights get out from CDG, regular and low cost.
Access to the airport is from Paris gare du Nord or other stations on the
same line like Chatelet.
The airport itself is not convenient and quite unpleasant, nothing much to
do or see while you're waiting.
Other flights, low costs, charter flights and a few regular to Cuba, Africa
leave from Orly, which is in a suburb south of Paris.
Beauvais is much less convenient, look at Ryanair.com for details about the
bus that takes you up there from the west of Paris.
Beauvais is OK if you find real cheap lowcost flights, otherwise it is a bit
of a trouble to get there and the airport is a badly refurbished shack with
nothing in it.

Ok, thanks. Ryanair is the only airline that I have seen that flies to
Beauvais, and I think I'd rather walk than fly Ryanair again, so I'll
strike that from the options. It seems like the choice between Orly and
CDG may be down to most convenient flight times.

Think twice about departing from CDG. It is overcrowded, noisy, and
very badly managed. The air conditioning is hopeless, the signage is
inadequate, and the staff are overworked and underpaid.

Passengers are kept waiting in lineup after lineup; you can get only 1
service at each counter, and must then go to the back of another lineup
for a different service. Of course, after all that standing around,
sooner or later you will discover that the toilets are on a different
floor, and that refreshments are hard to find. (Pickpockets just love
this kind of overcrowding and chaos; they know that everyone there has
cash, credit cards and a passport.)

If you aren't taking a long-distance flight, I suggest you have a
second look at one of the other smaller, more peaceful airports in the
region.

Bonne chance!

For a country known for its good food, it's particularly bad IMO. It's
really not right that Liverpool John Lennon has better options! :)

It's not just here in rte that I hear these reports. Seemingly
everyone that's been there reports the same things. Someone told me
the French also designed Moscow's Sheremetevyo airport too. That's one
that should be buried.

It can't be that far - it's a while since I've been, but I know:
a) I travelled by taxi, and
b) I'm not still paying installments on the bill

It's 120 Kilometers plus a ferry.

David's right. It may be the Ryanair airport that people
travelling to/from Bergen will use, but not even Ryanair
claim that it is a Bergen airport. (That was just my little
joke)

If you flew to Bergen airport, you would have flown to Flesland.
