I have read in some books discouraging travel to OZ during Dec - Jan
because of school holidays. Can anyone tell me how crowded Sydney,
Perth, Tasmania maybe during these months?
I've been several times during July-Aug and never experienced crowds,
Just want to know what to expect.
Thanks

Can't say for other cities, but here in Sydney you will find the
crowds quite comfortable, lots of people about, but this provides the
vibrancy of the city then.
The downside would be travel, all planes and trains will be peak
price, and full - so don't expect any discounts in that area.
Other than that, come on down, you will find summer a great time to be
in Australia, and remember there are lots of beaches to explore, both
in the city and surrounding areas.

I've been to Sydney then and had great time, its an ideal time
to get out of town to the beaches and surrounding country,

You'd find some areas such as beaches crowded, naturally, but local
transport to other places would be quieter, and accommodation shouldn't be
too hard to find in Sydney and Perth, as business travellers are on hols.
New Years Eve in Sydney will probably be tight. Tasmania will require
forward bookings particularly for hotels and motels as there will be a lot
of "mainlanders" holidaying there, but you shouldn't find it overcrowded.
There is pressure on long distance public transport at the beginning and end
of school holidays, and immediately prior to Christmas and just after New
Year.
