Default Tasmania in October

Hi all,
We are arriving in Hobart on October 13th and leasving from Launceston
on the 20th. We are driving and plan to hit Cradle Mountain in
between. I'm very interested in any suggestions for an itinerary and
things to see. We are thinking 1-2 days in Hobart, then through the
interior to the west coast, Cradle Mtn, Launceston. Nature,
sightseeing and short hikes (we're not young) over history but yes to
culture.

Thanks

The Tahune Air Walk near Geevston is worth a visit
(http://www.discovertasmania.com.au/h...cfm?SiteID=675) in fact
you could spend the wole day going down the Huon valley to
Hastings/Tahune/Hartz mountain walk then back via the D'Entrecasteaux
Channel.

If you are after a good steak try the Ball & Chain Grill
(http://www.ballandchain.com.au/) in Salamanca place or if it's seafood
you like see if you can get into Kelleys (http://www.kelleys.com.au/)

The Salmon Ponds are interesting if you are fisher people.

There are a number of short walks on the road to Strahan and you pass
by Lake StClair on that road. If you haven't been then a cruise up the
Franklin River at Strahan is a good way to spend a day, there is also
the Wilderness Railway from Queenstown to Strahan
(http://www.discovertasmania.com.au/h...cfm?SiteID=767).

Be prepared for snow at Cradle Mountain, we were there in April one
year and had 30-40cm of snow overnight.

On the Noth coast there is Woolnorth, the Dismal Swamp
(http://www.discovertasmania.com.au/h...cfm?SiteID=954) both
near Smithton, Stanley, the Levan canyon, the Liffy falls. If you are a
cheese freaks then Ashgrove Farm Cheeses at Elizabeth Town near
Deloraine is worth a visit as is Lactos in Burnie.

Enjoy your trip.

Thank you. Everything you mention seems worth a look.

Do the tour of the Cadbury Chocolate factory just out of Hobart.

We did a short flight in a light plane over Cradle Mountain.
(About $100 each from Launceston)

Mures in Hobart, superb for seafood, right on the harbour front.
The Ball and Chain for steaks - as already mentioned.

You can get seaplane triips from Strahan on the west coast or cruises up the river - either are spectacular, and worth a small detour while going near Cradle Mountain. Lake St Clair, near the mountain is wonderfulfor walks in a beautifully peaceful setting.

www.discovertasmania.com.au
will give you numerous places to visit - its a wonderful island, so wherever you go it will be a trip to remember.
