Hi,
Can anybody give an estimate of the success-rate for a boot trip to
swim with dolphins in New Zealand?
During my trip at the end of this year (Nov-Dec) I really want to go
swim with these creatures, but a friend told me that she had to go
twice, because they could not find any dolphins... :`(
Cheerio,

What is a boot trip? (oh - boat??) Where are you going? At Kaikoura I
think the success rate is very high - in Late summer they are closer to the
shore - we found around 100 of them within minutes of leaving South Bay, but
I believe that in early summer they are further off shore. In Akaroa there
are fewer Hectors Dolphins (maybe only 6 - 10 in a pod) but they are so
beautiful and fairly regularly seen.

In Feb we were out of luck at Akoroa in South Island but in the North 1 week
later in the Bay of Islands we struck lucky with two pods getting
together,HOWEVER there were folks on that trip who had been out two or three
times without seeing any. As long as you have the time you can get a ticket
which will let you go again free if you fail to see them.
