I am thinking of buying some real estate in Australia, but am balked at trying
to find what I want online perhaps due to not knowing how to ask for it in
Australian
So I will give you a url which is about the same sort of
"thingies" in the USA and maybe someone can come up with a similar url for
Australia.

try realestate.com.au which also has links to numerous estate agents - many
brokerages' websites have information on the market in general, closing
costs, foreign ownership, stamp duty, GST, Torrens and Strata Title, etc.

Practically every real estate agent seems to have a website now, my best
advice would be to try and decide upon an area and then do a yellow pages
lookup for REs in that area. Also have a look at www.news.com.au and look in
their RE ads.
We are at or just passed the top of a hefty price hike in real estate, maybe
wait a few months for interest rates to go up and you are likely to get a
few bargains as people cant meet repayments (1% increase in int rates means
a 25% increase in repayments presently). Melbourne and Sydney prices are
highest, then Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin.
You might need to check with Dept of Immigration as to ownership issues and
right of access to your property - just 'cos you own a house here does nt
mean you can get to see it for more than tourist visa visits.

I have already tried it, am having much difficulty with it. I am not the most
computer literate person around
I am only interested in newly built but
completely finished houses, it seems to want to steer me to houses that will
be finished in the future.

Are you saying Perth is cheaper than Brisbane. I am visiting Australia from
late Oct. thru late Dec. I was planning on sticking to NSW and the Gold Coast
and then up to Brisbane and back to Sydney. May have to find time for Perth if
real esate is less expensive there than Brisbane.
