Me and my wife are planning to work/travel in NZ at the end of next year.
She is a nurse and I'm a web designer etc..
Anybody got any tips or hints for our year and possible immigration?
Anything at all, accommodation agencies for rent, transport, employment agencies, you name it!
Thanks to you all.

Your wife will be able to get work anywhere if she gets her qualification
recognised by NZ. You may find a problem getting work, but it is available
in Auckland and Wellington..

Hi Ian,
Not planning to rain on your parade but are you aware of the dramatic change
in NZ's immigration policies as of about 2 am last Thursday??
Basically you have to "be invited" to migrate to NZ - they appear to have
abolished the points system. In your case it may in fact become easier as
you obviously speak English & have skills which are in demand. Just don't
try to get work in Auckland as that will count against prospective migrants.
Has your wife tried the major hospital web-sites or classifieds such as
www.jobstuff.co.nz?

Hi Ian,
I am a nurse who just on Friday past got PR for NZ with a job offer from Christchurch Public Hospital.I know the general skills category has changed dramatically this week but i can't see them not inviting experienced nurses to apply as they are so short in NZ.
The main thing to do initially is as Neil says, to get NZ registration which can take longer than you would think and then it is quite easy to make direct contact with hospitals or even ward sisters through advertisments on the internet. If it is the end of this year you are hoping to go you would still be O.k. with the interim general skills policy but even next year I think nurses should still be in with a good chance.
All the best anyway and if i can be of anymore help, please ask. there are a few more nurses heading the same direction at the minute and you might get more reponses on the NZ and Australia 'lifestyle and culture' section of this forum.

As a nurse, you will have no trouble getting immigration permission to work
in Auckland. You can choose any hospital, and be very choosey about the type
of work you want to do.
