Default jobs with children in Oz -are they regulated?

My wife will be looking for a job in Perth - she is a paediatric mental
health occupational therapist (OT) also trained in all other areas of
occupational therapy- however she won't be able to work in Oz as an OT
because the Western Australia OT board has difficult registration
requirements for foreigners (eg. they require a 6 month supervised
shadowing period before registration)
- as she is very good with kids i wondered if she could get work as a
childminder or teachers assistant

- are these sorts of jobs with kids heavily regulated in Oz the same
way that they are in the UK?
- Would she be able to work in these fields without formal
chilldminding or teaching qualifications?

thanks
Simon

I'm not 100% sure about WA, but most States now have a simple registration
process for people working (and volunteering) with children. They should
include police checks on the person concerned, reference checks, proof of
identity, etc.
