Default Greyhound Australia

Greyhound Australia unveiled

McCaffertys Greyhound was today officially relaunched as Greyhound
Australia.

The new brand, featured across the company's fleet, completes the
integration of the McCaffertys, Greyhound, Pioneer, Travel Coach and Bus
Australia brands.

Pioneer Tours began in 1905 with day tours around Melbourne.

Greyhound started in 1928 when A.R. (Russ) Penfold began a passenger
service in Toowoomba, using a Bullnose Whippet car that sported a Greyhound
radiator cap.

McCaffertys was founded by Jack McCafferty in 1940 in Toowoomba, and
commenced interstate services in the late 1960's.

Greyhound and Pioneer joined forces in 1992, then in 1993 merged with
Bus Australia and traded under the umbrella of Australian Coachlines.
McCaffertys purchased Greyhound Pioneer Australia in 2000 forming the only
national coach operator in Australia.

The McCafferty family sold their interest in the business to the
current co-owners ANZ Bank and the Chapman Group of Cairns in 2003.

Managing director Ron O'Grady said the latest re-branding created a
platform to grow services, frequency and routes on a national scale.

"It's also great news for travel agents, as they will have more travel
options to sell," he added.

O'Grady also announced the company's purchase of Suncoast Pacific
Coaches, which operates between Noosa and Byron Bay.

"This acquisition will enable us to cut running time from Noosa to
Brisbane, and will give us the ability to increase our frequency and number
of routes in the very important Sunshine Coast to Brisbane corridor," he
said.

Not quite correct - I worked at the Greyhound/Pioneer SYD terminal, in
both reservations and despatch, from 1988 until 1990. The two brands
whilst seperate were very much one and the same. During busy periods
on the Greyhound phones, some of use were moved across to the Pioneer
phones, and vice versa. I found out which check-in counter I was
working on when I arrived, the only difference being the epaulettes on
my shirt.

Come on Dave, you want the companies PR person to actually get historical
facts right?

Talk about optimism!
