Default Driving from australia to tasmania

Well not driving actually, but is it prossible to take a rented car
on the ferry to Davenport? Is there a difference between the various
car rentals?

TIA, Bernd.

Taking the ferry to Devonport should be no real problem - it's treated as a
Federal Highway, but always double check with your hire company.

You can take your car from Melbourne on the Spirit of Tasmania (which is
supposed to be a very nice ship) and drive in Tasmania the same as you would
on the mainland.

Been there, done that! But then with my own car. And Tony you are right the
Spirit of Tasmania is a nice ship.
BTW Bernd - Have you thought about your passport when travelling from
Australia to Tasmania! I always thought T was part of A. :-)

Hertz, as an example, considers Tassie to be a "total responsibility area"
(ie responsible for ALL damage) if the car is rented outside Tasmania. I
believe other agencies are similar.

You mean that the driver has to cover all damages? I wouldn't like that,
because it can always happen by bad luck. Hmm, I should contact the rental
agencies for details - or rent tow different cars for Tassie and the mainland.
Any opinions?

Bye, Bernd.

It sounds like a nice trip (about 14 hours, over night). I really like the
idea, but first I have to convince my girlfriend ;-)

Passports we need anyway.

Bye, Bernd.

It is actually a NZ car-boat thingy - Aquada - the "brainchild" of 80
entreprenaur, Alan Gibb.

He was only asking you if you'd seen it - I don't think he was seriously
suggesting you fork out the $300K to purchase it.....

Drop off your rental car on the mainland, rent another one in Tassie.
