Default Canadians Christmas in Brisbane\Gold Coast

We are a family of four ((kids age11 and 9....love theater) that will be
spending Christmas away from home this year. We will be in a cottage at
Treasure Island on the Gold Coast in the 5th week of a 7 week trip to
Australia.

Any Suggestions on how we should spend our day besides hitting the
beach?.....everything else is closed?

I presume you mean just Christmas day and not for a whole week.

Once you have opened all the presents and bloated yourself on Christmas
dinner what else would you want to do but sit around and relax with a cold
one.

Des, you couldn't pay me to be on the GC at Christmas in particular (and
would have to pay me a LOT the rest of the year), but that's because tens of
thousands of tourists disagree with me - the place will be chockers and
there will be facilities and activities to match.

It's a fine and growing Aussie tradition to have a Christmas brunch then hit
the beach with a hamper of good cold food (beluga and bubbly) - I'm sure you
will meet heaps of people who will be doing the same. Makes a whole lot
more sense in mid-summer than the old pommie-induced tradition of twenty veg
and some steroid-fed bird with three weeks of hot-and-heavy leftovers.

LOL.........we will certainly forego the traditional Turkey dinner this
year.....and the left overs!

I can understand your feelings aboutthe GC at Christmas seeing that you're
an off the beaten track kinda a guy.....I like that as well, and we are
doing some of that (to a degree. Gemtree....Curtin Springs....oodna Mail
Run}..........we will enjoy the hustle and bustle, tourism and parks of the
Gold Coast for a "week"...........but I know that the next week we are going
to share a small, intimate cruise ship with about only 180 others for a
whole week on the reef.............................................. and we
have been just the other day, upgraded from one cabin to now having two
separate staterooms on an upper deck as well!

Very cool. Say g'day to the station owners at Curtin Springs for me, if
they're around. (actually, don't say g'day. We can NOT do it with the right
twang and Aussies will quite rightly take the piss out of any foreigner
trying to be smart). They're fair dinkum blokes and if you get on their
good side MIGHT take you to the foot of Mt. Conner (which in many ways I
prefer to Ayer's Rock).

You'll beat me to Gemtree and to the reef cruise! Will have to give me the
skinny on it in SYD. Hey group, where's a good local in Sydney for us, one
with good counter lunches and without too much smoke or too many fruit
machines?

I have been talking to the folks there, we are stopping there for a night
on the way to Yulara from Gemtree then taking the morning Camel Ride.

Hi Des,

Sorry I can't help you but I was wondering if you had a link for Treasure Island. I had a look a little while back and it looked great for the kids (Both old and young alike!) Seem to have lost it off my favorites.

Hope you can help

Hi thanks Des,

After days touring around schools, houses employment agencies etc I think anything would look good. Especially for the kids. We're going out to validate our visas and have a look about so we need to bribe the kids with something.

Thanks again
