Default Cairns and Port Douglas - need help!

We need some suggestions for a 5 day trip to Cairns (2 nights) and
Port Douglas (3 nights). The reason for the split is that we want to
do the Kuranda and Atherton Tablelands daytrips from Cairns and the
rainforest and reef trips from Port Douglas.

Can someone suggest good quality hotels/apartments in the
Cairns/Trinity Beach/Palm Cove area for 2 nights. Budget ~US$150 or
less. Oceanfronts preferred. Would love to hear raves from people who
stayed in specific hotels.

We have decided to spend 3 nights in Port Douglas at The Peninsula
boutique hotel. People seem to like it in general. Any other
suggestions?

Our plan goes like this:

Day 1: Atherton tablelands
Day 2: Kuranda
Day 3: Reef cruise
Day 4: Rainforest tour
Day 5: Rainforest habitat & Four Mile Beach

Does this look OK? Any suggestions? Are we missing something?

TIA

Well, if you are interested, we had a great stay in the Radison Daintree
Treetops Rainforest resort in Port Douglas.

We have just returned from our honeymoon to Australia and spent the last
week in Palm Cove. We stayed at the Sebel Reef House it was excellent. The
food was good, the staff were brilliant and the scenery fantastic. Its a 2
minute walk across the road to the beach. Its quite a small hotel, 69
bedrooms in total, but perfect. We would recommend it to anyone. Have a
look for yourself at www.reefhouse.com.au. Have a wonderful time in this
wonderful country.
