Default Australia

I am going to Fiji in May and thinking about taking a detour to
Australia for a few days. Can you tell me of city on the coast or
an island to visit that has beautiful scenery, good surfing, and great
food? I will probably consider the north and east sides of Australia.

Thanx in advance -JM

There are many places that fit what you are seeking but Sydney fits all your
requirements and is probably the easiest place for you to reach if you are
detouring on the way to Fiji

Bear in mind that the NE coast of Australia has the GBR and therefore there
is no surf north of Bundaberg?? (not exactly sure where the surf ends) -
Brisbane/Gold or Sunshine Coast might suit.

Anywhere between Eden and Broadbeach, depending on the size of
town/city you want and how warm you want to be. I'd suggest somewhere
near Byron Bay - possibly Cabarita for the surf (big at the moment).
Direct flights to the Gold Coast from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne
then a cab to Caba or a bus to Byron.

The surf ends at the Town of Seventeen Seventy.

You call 1 foot big!

Best bet for surf is the southern ocean; WA, Vic and SA coastline! The
eastcoast is so inconsistent!

There hasn't been a decent wave there in weeks, meanwhile down south they're
expecting swells of 10 foot plus.....check it out for yourself....

When I walked out this morning and looked, they appeared about 3-4 ft.
However, the coastwatch site predicts 2-3. Use the site for future
predictions at http://www.coastalwatch.com/cam.asp?cam=2000.
Bye - enough from me.

Except during a cyclone. Then you can ride the waves
back out, off the wall, at Yeppoon.

No thanks, I'll stick with my own predictions taken from the following
sources......
http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDS10023.txt
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDS65031.shtml
http://www.fnoc.navy.mil/PUBLIC/WAM/all_indo.html
http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/waves/lat...3_in.f024h.gif
http://www.navo.navy.mil/cgi-bin/gra...1/0/index.html

On the east coast today....
http://www.realsurf.com/RS_Images/20...30807_6222.jpg
http://www.realsurf.com/RS_Images/20...30807_5647.jpg
http://www.realsurf.com/RS_Images/20...30807_1914.jpg
http://www.realsurf.com/RS_Images/20...30807_5386.jpg

Meanwhile down south today I was taking photos of 10 foot plus surf and it
will be bigger tomorrow!

But don't take any notice of me, as I've only been surfing all over
Australia for more than 40 years!

A Place Called "Byron Bay" sounds like what youre after. Everything is
within a hundred meters of the surf. From Backpackers to 5 star accom. From
Mc Donalds to 5 star resturants. Its Australias most easterly point,Great
Surf. Filled with young ppl ,you should consider it..
Look up Byron Bay AUS on the net, you'll see for yourself......Cheers. Enjoy
your stay.. Rod
