AUS-NZ $1 Airfares Predicted

A major New Zealand Travel Agency is predicting airfares as low as
$1between Auckland and Sydney early next year.
The Flight Centre says an airfare war is likely because there are a
large number of airlines flying the Trans-Tasman route with too many
empty seats.
It says in the past, airlines would have been happy to have flights
half-full, but slim profit margins mean that seats need to be filled.
Managing Director Graeme Moore says the move reflects what is
happening in Europe and North America, where competition from
value-based airlines is pushing down the price of airfares.
He says if Virgin Blue moves into the Auckland market, it is likely
that consumers willl see short-term one off offers for $49 or possibly
even as low as one-dollar for flights across the Tasman.
