Default Any difference between Virgin Blue & Qantas

Hi,

Is there any significant difference between Virgin Blue and Qantas domestic?
This in regard to inflight service, comfort, etc? We're looking at flying
between Perth & Adelaide where they seem to use the same 737-400's so the
plane type seems the same anyway.

Thanks

Magnus

Virgin is a Discount Carrier, you have to pay for drinks, snacks, ect....
All coach seating and a discount price.

If you go with Virgin pay the extra $50 for "Blue Zone" seating, that will
get you the bulkhead or exit row with more leg room.

Qantas you'll get a meal service and drinks included in ticket.

Price out both fares and you need to decide what works for you!

The other noticeable difference (to me, anyway) is that Virgin Blue targets
the younger generation with it's advertising and young (and cool) staff.

While Qantas targets the baby boomers and business traveller.

Jusy my observation.

i just flew with VirginBlue from sydney to goldcoast, there service was good
and legroom was great.
i didn't enjoy having to pay for water though!!
i have never flown with qantas before so i can't do a comparison, but they
were really nice on VirginBlue and we had no troubles what so ever.

You don't pay for water etc on Qantas. Other than that IMHO much of a
muchness - I tend to book whatever is offering the cheaper flights on the
day.

If it's that important to you, take a bottle of water. I frequently do
anyway on longer hauls. Air Canada has just eliminated free meals in cattle
class on flights of 1.75 and 3.5 hours, promising better food (!) for prices
of around $12. Unless I'm stuck with a connecting flight and can't leave
the airport (and am thus stuck with overpriced, wretched terminal food) I'll
pass, thanks, and take the $100 cheaper fare to save the price of a GOOD
meal at arrival. Virgin/QF principles should also apply, mutatis
mutandis......

Just came back from a month-long trip in Australia from US - flew two
Virgin Blue & two Qantas domtestic flights. Was very impressed with VB
- very clean, new, efficient, & all staff we encountered was great. No
complimentary service, but not a problem - just brought water & a
snack for the kids. Qantas also fine. More complimentary service -
some food & drinks on each flight. One Q flight departed a half hour
late so they served complimentary beer & wine onboard.

These days it seems to me that the best attitude to take is that air
travel is pretty much to get you where you want to go safely and not
ridiculously uncomfortably. That way, anything above and beyond is a
bonus. I would advise: take the airline with the best prices. They'll
both do the job more than satisfactorially.

Have a great trip -

Karen

As long as they don't charge you for expelling it inflight after usual kidney
filtration process.....
