Default Re Stellenbosch

Thank for this lovely update on Stellenbosch. I
lived in Stellenbosch for some time and has 2 daughters at university there.
I know the place and the area well. The writing Danie did on the question
about Stellenbosch was truly remarkable. I saved a copy of it just for
future reference. It is so good to see that there are people on the group
that truly wants to help.

Danie - How come you know this area so well?

Greetings
Koos

Hallo Koos.

Having been to school in nearby Paarl helps. "Gimmie" in case you're
wondering, Years and years ago.

I also had a number of friends who lived in Stellenbosch. We often
went there as we lived fairly close to Stellenbosch until a few years
ago. First in Paarl, then in Wellington and then in Kraaifontein.

General information, e.g. other towns and the roads etc. come from
memory but, to let myself down, the detailed information comes from
their tourist brochures!

Still, I can't remember how many times I've driven Helshoogte past
Pniel to Franschhoek as well as all the other roads and passes in the
vicinity. The mountain passes are lovely to drive on two wheels! If
you take it slow of course.

But I'm permanently on 4 wheels now - a serious bike prang put me in a
wheelchair (4 wheels but not 4X4 unfortuntely) some years ago.

Crash - Boom - Splat !

Oh, I forgot about OUCH

he he he

But, I still "travel" on the internet and in books and occasionlly by
car (I drive with one leg and one arm only - see my personal website
link in my sig below) when I can afford some petrol on my rather
skimpy pension.

I'm working on a tourism website about South Africa and just recently
completed the section about the winelands which include Stellenbosch,
Franschhoek and Paarl. In fact, most of the info I gave was copied and
pasted from my website's Stellenbosch page.

"Why not give the link?" is what you'll probably ask.

Well, the website is FAR from finished (and I still need permission
from many people/websites/publishers to use their images) so I dare
not make it public knowledge yet. Sigh.

BTW, I'll be getting round to Namaqualand some time in the future, I
might just ask for your help then!

Hoes daai vir 'n skimp? Translated for the benefit of non-Afrikaans
readers - How's that for a hint?

Groetnis/Greetings.

Thanx and what an example! Just an suggestion - perhaps a cry for help.

I worked for many year in Zululand amongst the Zulu peoples. Now - after 21
years, I am back "home" living on a small piece of rock on the northern
boundary of the Cederberge. To keep the girls at University (Stellenbosch) I
started a Safari company some 4 years ago. Naturally the area we concentrate
on is the West Coast, Namaqualand, the Cederberge, the Diamond Coast, the
Richtersveld, the Namib and the Kalahari. But it has been tough thus far. I
only hear of all the wonders of tourism explosion in South Africa.

I have contacted hundreds of travel services and spend much money on
marketing (In SA terms) Up to now it has been a waste. The only thing that
seems to work is a mouth to mouth recruiting effort. How about you starting
a proper marketing drive included or linked to your planned web site and ask
some sort of commission to do marketing? I do not have the time nor the
knowledge myself.

Peace
Koos

PS. If their is need for it, I can gladly do an update on "my" area.

Where in Zululand? I lived in Vryheid for a few years till 1983.

Got married there, perhaps that's why I still get nightmares about the
place :>))
