Hi...having never been to Kenya since I was a little boy, i am going on a
safari vacation.
My first day will literally be in Nairobi for the entire day, but I have
very fond childhood memories of thikka falls, which i believe isn't too far
from Nairobi.
As a precursor to my safari, is it feasable to make a day trip to thikka
falls , or is it impracticle?
Is there local transport available between Nairobi and thikka falls, and
should I book this in advance?
thanks!

It would be very easy, it's on the way out to e.g. Mt Kenya, Aberdares
or Samburu/Buffalo Springs.

I don't know about matatus, and their timetables can be extremely
approximate, (though the matatus themselves looked much safer in July
than on previous trips, apparently the regulations have been
tightened) but you could get a taxi.

Look up Lets Go travel in Nairobi, they could transport you to Thika
and on to the Chania falls. You could go to the Blue Posts hotel ( of
Flame Trees of Thika fame ) and have lunch or a drink. It`s about 25kms
to Thika from Nairobi. The first thing I said when I went to Thika was
"where are the flame trees!?" There aren`t any and Thika is just a
small town but you could go and see the falls. Lets Go travel is
excellent and will be able to help you, check out their website.

I'm sure there must be public buses going between Nairobi and
Thika, and there are certainly matatus.
