Default Flight to Zambia, Heathrow connection

The next wednesday i flight to Zambia.

I land at Heathrow (from Italy) at 15.50pm and take off at 19:15pm (British
Airways). I have to transfer from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 and i'm a bit
worried about my luggages.. (i heard bad stories about Heathrow and lost
luggages in flights connection).

What could be better?

1) Collect my luggages in Heathrow, transport them from Terminal 1 to
Terminal 4, recheck-in and board (is there enough time?).

2) Send the luggages directly to Lusaka (final destination)

Thanks

P.S.: sorry for my poor english...

Unless someone has genuine, verified statistics, not just anecdotes,
it's a decision you'll have to make for yourself. Personally, always
having a connection from Glasgow, usually in London, I check my hold
baggage right through:
a. To avoid hassle
b. So that I don't have to carry it
c. so that if my first plane is delayed, I won't have to panic while
waiting for the first plane to offload my luggage, then be slowed up
between connections. Terminals 1 - 4 is a fair distance.
I carry my camera equipment, spare undies, malaria tablets and
important papers in my hand baggage.
I've only had bags not arrive with me once, and that wasn't through
Heathrow. Maybe I've been usually lucky.

However, the decision is yours to make, based on what you'll need in
your first couple of days in Zambia and whether you can get it into
your hand luggage.

Slainte

I would agree with Liz, check your baggage right through from your home
airport to Zambia, like Liz we have always had to transfer from
Terminal One to either Four or Three and over a thirty year period have
never lost a bag! Perhaps we were lucky! Enjoy your visit to Zambia.
Pat.

Just to confirm: Are you absolutely sure that your flight is from
Heathrow DIRECTLY to Lusaka?

It is possible that you will be flying to Lusaka via Johannesburg. If
that's the case, and you have enough time, then you should definitely
check your luggage to Johannesburg, collect it there, and then check
in to the Zambian flight.

Regards,
Marc

Yes.
Direct from LHR to LUN.
It's the only flight that connects directly London and Lusaka.

Good... just checking :-)

Johannesburg is renowned as an airport where baggage gets tampered
with regularly. :-(

Cheers,
Marc
