Hello all,
I am hoping to visit sometime in September or somewhere near then.
What I am wondering is if anyone has any idea for cheap minivan hire
on a long hire plan. We were going to come for 1-2 months depending
on how much it costs, there is only me my wife and young son.
We have been told that the extra expense of a minivan gives the room
needed to contain (!?) the little one and also provides a better
vantage point for spotting animals.
I am wondering if anyone can recommend a cheap hire company as they
all seem quite highly priced from my webbrowsing (not very
proficient). We would be flying into Joburg international and
leaving and spending nearly all the time in Kruger, with maybe a few
days near the park (any ideas?).
I have been to Kruger once before as a youngster so have a little
knowledge of some of the lodges, if anyone can point me to anywhere
online that can help with bookings, that also would be most welcome.
Oh, to be doing some of the things I am reading about in the group!!!
The burden of having children eh!!
Any websites would be brilliant. When is the best time to visit (non
school holidays, bush growth, etc).
I leave myself in your capable hands....
Thank you to all who can provide me with assistance and I promise to
post back especailly after the holiday.

It is definately an advantage to be higher up when game spotting.

Possibly visit the Eastern Drakensburg escarpment around Sabie, Blyde River
Canyon.

Use the web site http://www.parks-sa.co.za/ for online booking to national
parks in South Africa including Kruger. Book well in advance.

Winter (June, July, August) is the best time due to the lack of rain and
hence low height of grass. Also as water is scarce, game tends to accumulate
near the water holes, making finding the game easier! Remember, Kruger is in
the Lowveld, so what passes for winter is 25C maximum and 10C minimum
generally.
Try the website www.krugerpark.co.za for general information.
Remember that Kruger is in a malaria area. You must get medical advice on
using the correct anti-maliarial tablets prior to visiting.

Hi,
see http://www.econorent.co.za/car.html
You will be looking at a Toyota Venture or VW Microbus.
I have no links with these people, but heard good reports from others.
