Wow! Hot summer in Alentejo!
Just noticing the weather forecast for Ourique on my phone. Big run of hot days coming.... 39, 34, 37, 37, 36 Is that normal for this time of year? I notice Faro is pretty much 10 degrees cooler over the same stretch.

Just spoke to SWMBO, sweating away at 21.30.
Here in the UK, I'm wearing a fleece!

We were in the pool at 10.00 this morning and then spent the rest of the day inside. Just outside Ourique.
Went outside at 5.00, it was 39C, but we had a cool ish breeze, so had a couple of beers.
But yes, but warmer this year than it has been.
Macliam, nesh, that's what you are, nesh. Been here too long

All right, all right. Stop making us still in the UK feel bad, 15 degress today - if I'm lucky. Same tomorrow. I think we've had our summer. We're normally planning our holiday by now...

Hot here near Tomar in Central Portugal - we expected the odd hot few days, but this is getting towards Andalucia temperatures ... we came here to escape May-October +30ºC ... so we are hoping this is just a short-term heatwave! Garden is suffering ! And the dogs are spending most of their daytime lounging in the cool corridors of the house!

This was 2016:
The Met Office also listed ten towns and cities which had breached the 42 degrees Celsius mark this past month, with the highest recorded temperature so far being in the central Portugal city of Tomar, where the weather station registered 42.8.
2018:
So far, the mercury column has risen highest in Portugal in Alvega (Santarém district) with 45.2 degrees . And in these other cities, the thermometer also climbed over 40 degrees: Amareleja (44.7), Tomar (44.4), Mora (44.4), Reguengos (44.4), Santarém (44.1) and Pegões (44).

At our place near the Atlantic coast, the temperature today is...
I'd better not say.
Keep cool everyone.

Interesting that everyone has commented on the temperature but not the accompanying humidity, which either means that there isn't any to speak of or you're all used to it. It's been 30+ here in HK for a couple of months and the humidity has been in the high 80s and 90s for most of that time. I walked to the shop at midday today (a 5km round trip) when the humidity was at its lowest, but I was still sweating like a pig once I'd got 30m from my home. By the time I got back I needed a rub down with a damp Radio Times...! By contrast, a lifetime ago I worked in the high desert in Arizona where the temperatures were as bad as they are here, however humidity was not an issue. I remember once listening to a weather report on the radio one morning when the presenter said to "expect it to be uncomfortable today as the humidity will rise to 20%...".

In Algarve humidity is not an issue in the summer but it can get quite high in the winter.

Mostly very dry.
Sometimes we get summer fog here at the coast, which is humid but also cool.
As the fog lifts, transition to hot and dry is almost instant.

I remember being on a touring camper van holiday a few years back and we arrived in Figeira da Foz. We camped up and walked down to the beach, it was 30 degreees plus, we put the dog in the fountain to cool her off. The next day it was about 16 degrees, foggy and chilly. We went from shorts to jeans and jackets over night.

Even if the temp and humidity might be the same as HK, you might experience more heat in HK due to urban heat island effect, so the buildings/concrete/glass reflects the heat. Then you have different wind directions, smog etc.
Air quality can make a huge difference.
