Wood pallets
Does anyone know of anywhere that provide free wooden pallets in the Portimeo area?

Re: Wood pallets
No where gives free pallets in the Algarve to my knowledge. The cost of the pallet is built into any delivery cost so unlikely to be given away. Were you wanting 1 or 2, or a stream of free firewood for the winter?

Re: Wood pallets
I would recommend against burning any general use/ industrial pallets, so primarily standard metric 1200mm x 900mm pallets, most commonly "GKN blue" pallets, but other pallets of the same size. Those pallets may have had all sorts of chemicals spilled on them, which might either produce toxic smoke, or leave toxic ash, including lead or other toxic heavy metals.
Your best bet for finding "free" pallets, is looking for businesses receiving products commonly shipped on one way/ single use pallets, such as turf grass, and bulk quantities of some types of construction materials. You might find unwanted pallets at businesses (or in the skips/ dumpsters behind them) that retail products such as tiles and laminate flooring, because they're buying pallet loads and selling smaller quantities. Also anyone who has bought pallets of turf, such as new home builders, office builders, or golf courses (or the skips/ dumpsters they use), or try asking landscapers if they have any. Note: Single use pallets are usually of inferior quality, thinner wood, and often without the cross bracing pieces that rest on the ground. |
Re: Wood pallets
Thank you for the replies. Passed a building site yesterday, saw lots of wooden pallets stacked up so stopped and asked if we could take some. No problem, so now have the wood to complete a garden project.
