Default Withdrawal agreement and residency

I have just been made aware of the Brexit withdrawal agreement and the changes to some of the conditions to Portuguese residency and would like to highlight them to you.
For UK. citizens that have become Portugal residence prior to 1st January 2021
1 you must reside for six months or more in each year
2 Your year starts on the day you obtaining residency
3 This is for the first five years of residency

Those don't look like new residency conditions to me but they perhaps highlight one of the consequences of Brexit on residency for Brits, namely that they cannot restart the process at any point in the same way they could before (or any other EU citizen still can). Residency for Brits under the WA has become a 'use it or lose it' status.

These conditions are quite natural; after all, if you do not intend to live in Portugal for at least six months in a year, what is the point of getting that residence.

Some people may be tempted to get a residence in Portugal for the sake of convenience and to avoid restrictions on stays of over 90 days, while keeping UK residence. Much more likely than not this would open a can of worms regarding taxation, healthcare, main residence, etc, etc, etc.

Great, but you're 17 months late. Subject has been covered here many times.
