The thing to remember with wood pellets & wood pellet fired burners & boilers is they all vary in quality..... and you need to buy all by quality not price but get it right and they're superb.

I'll add that I really admire Liveaboard's approach to high tech green methods and would love to follow that path but quite honestly, I've never seen anything that adds up economically.... As I se it, if it pays, it stays but if not it's a non starter.

I think it's down to ventilation rather than insulation, our house has to to be one of the best insulated around yet get dampness in 2 bedrooms, one of which we added vents on the walls to this winter as an experiment and it it seems to have illimatated it!

As you'll have seen, there are many options for heating, etc. and not all will suit you, for whatever reason - it's your choice and nobody can tell you what is best for you. Speak to people in whatever area you choose and judge for yourself which is best for you -but remember, in the end the winter is short and the summer is long

Looking for somewhere with C/H already in place will likely push up the budget and limit your choice, but retro-fitting is an expensive option and you may decide it doesn't pay off for you, whatever the fuel.

I had the inner walls all demolished and the floor dug out to put in underfloor hydroponic loops; now any heating system can be added as desired.

It was a bit of a bother; it turned out that the walls were holding up the roof.
