As a non resident.?.
Barclays has cancelled our credit cards as it has pulled out of Portugal . We have a state pension paid into a Barclays Bank. ( ironically ) in the UK. Can anyone advise on which UK bank will offer services including a credit card to British non residents

Probably none. I've been trying to open an account for the last few months and the question is always there now on the application. Where are you resident? I didn't use to be like this and I don't know why it changed unless it's to do with "money laundering regulations" from the EU.

p.s. i assumed you mean non resident of UK.

Several Portuguese banks offer Non-resident accounts and you can get a "temporary" NIF in order to use at account opening..

Why do you need a UK credit card? A debit card would be an easier proposition.

Surely you'll also need a new PT bank account [and I assume you already have opened one]; I thought the banks here were always trying to foist credit cards on their customers.
Is there an advantage to having a UK GBP credit card?

We have obviously got a PT bank account plus credit and debit cards. We also have a Dutch account with same. Our main source of cash is in NL. But we also have money in Barclays in the UK. They have cancelled our credit and debit cards as we live in Portugal. We now hate their guts( ok not really ) But we don't see why we should continue to hold money in their coffers any more.
Will look into the Yorkshire bank then. thanks .

I know Barclays UK say they won't do it but have you tried opening a Barclays Isle of Man account? We have one and we are clearly not resident there. We also have a Barclays UK account and they are clearly two different divisions because Barclays UK can see we have an Isle of Man account but they can't access it.

Funny you should mention the Isle of Man Shanorme. It's where we were going to retire too and where we thought of setting up a new bank account.Obviously that didn't work out Will look into it again. We will be in Liverpool in the summer. so could always pop across.
