For those living in Portugal, what is the situation now? Are you still in lockdown nationally or is it still regional? How high are the cases and hospitalisations?

UK holidays abroad have been blocked for the time being.

New daily cases are at a few percent of the peak just 6 weeks ago.
Hospitalizations are way down too.
Lockdown is continuing in theory, but most things are open. Some work is impossible to do as many government offices are closed.
Vaccination roll out has been very slow, so another wave is quite possible.

Are those things supposed to be closed? We're hoping to start easing restrictions here in England soon. Nothing is open at the moment except supermarkets and takeaways. There is much more traffic and people about now than in the first lockdow. Foreign travel is not allowed though, I looked to see when flights were possible, one airline had nothing until August.

That is the same where I am on the Algarve.......only supermarkets open really, although Leroy Merlin (B&Q) is open but you cant buy garden furniture or carpets curtains, but you can buy decking and taps etc..so mainly building items.
All clothes shops closed. Have seen sell at the door coffee, but restaurants/bars closed. Again take away meals from some places are available
At weekends cannot leave your county.
I have seen GNR stopping all traffic on roads to some beaches down here, but on others people are sunbathing, so bit pot luck.
Dont know whats happening at Easter, but would guess they will impose some sort of restrictions on travel

We do have DIY shops and Garden Centres open. Clothes shops are closed, but WHSmiths was open when I had to go into the town centre on Saturday. It is weird. I saw some people on the news who had opened their gift shop by selling milk or something stupid. Our pubs are open to outside drinking only from April 12th, timed not to cater for Easter. It is what it is.

All travel outside your district is banned from this Friday until 5 April. Think it starts at midnight.

Bons - if you have Facebook, why don't you "follow" Safe Communities Portugal - they have regular updates in English to inform the ex-pats community. https://www.facebook.com/scalgarve/ - it started based in the Algarve but covers the whole of Portugal now.
As to travel - people coming back to Portugal who are registered as Residents (NOT holidays) are allowed back (also Portuguese citizens and to rejoin the family group) into Portugal but how you get here is another matter - there have been posts on here about going via a third country since airlines are not providing direct routes. Driving through France and Spain has its own restrictions re providing negative Covid tests with the right timing, but may be possible. Things will probably ease again AFTER Easter when governments are all trying to avoid another holiday-caused-surge.

I'm not on Facebook. Ideally we want to drive down so we are monitoring the situation. I looked on P & O for Ferries Dover to Calais in June, a lot have been booked already. Actually, I can read the Facebook post from that link, so thanks, I'll keep checking that.

Last I heard, they are still vaccinating the 80 year olds and have now started on the teachers.

A family member in the UK said I'd received an invite from the NHS to make my jab appointment If anyone in UK hasn't had it and wants to exchange it for a case of Marmite, drop me a line
