Think it is effective from 1st March, all sixteen councils in the Algarve approved it last year at a level of €1,50- per person/night during the period March - October up to a maximum of seven nights. Still no final decision as debate going on about the wisdom of applying it contrasting experience of Lisbon and Porto where it does exist with the Algarve on basis of Algarve being a longer term holiday destination while Lisbon and Porto short stay locations.

With two weeks to go to introduction date all quiet....

You do wonder if the predominant tourist to Spain / Portugal / France etc, especially with the current climate of "not a good word for the UK from the rest of Europe" will eventually say enough is enough and look elsewhere for their holidays.

Just thinking out loud and I know the tourist tax will affect all visitors but it just maybe another tick in the box to go somewhere else.

As I said just thinking out loud. I am sure if memory serves me right you actually contributed to a thread a while back about how you were finding Portuguese people / institutions more obstructive since the Brexit vote.

From our own point of view we have had three, week long UK breaks in the last six months, breaks which historically we would have jumped on a plane and gone to our place in Portugal so that is money staying in the UK as opposed to being spent abroad.

As I was saying a lot of European leaders / negotiators with some harsh / damning words about the UK will some UK residents who normally go abroad adopt a "sod them, I'll spend my money elsewhere" attitude?
