State healthcare costs.

I have seen on Facebook that a chap has been told by his Health Centres receptionist that he will have to pay 35€ for a doctors appointment, instead of the 4.50€ he was expecting.

He is registered and has his user number but he is an early retiree so has no social security number.

He was told that the rules had changed.

Anyone else experienced this or have any good links showing otherwise?

Also I know people are emailing their health centres to order repeat prescriptions that are then text to them. I thought there was a charge of 3.50€ for a prescription. How can this be paid if you aren't in the health centre or is the fee waived if purely electronic?

In our case we use the online service for prescriptions but at our last visit to the Health Centre we had to pay the accumulated charge as they keep a complete record.

They can also generate a bill with a multibanco reference and send it by post.

Don't know whether they would in this particular circumstance but I've received payment requests that way in the past.
