Bring woolly hat ,scarf, gloves. wear several layers. Takes less space in bags! Very frosty this morning in Ribatejo. Plenty of sun but.... sooo.. cold. Yellow warning for cold till Friday. Can't remember it being so cold. .

No, by the coast!

I presume you do actually have central heating, :-)

Well, I brought all sorts of wooly stuff and extra layers but in truth I haven’t needed too much unexpected to keep warm. I’ve just finished a late breakfast on my balcony here in the lovely town of Lagos and I’ve worked up a sweat sitting in the warm sun despite wearing shorts and a long sleeved t-shirt. By complete contrast my son, who lives near Nottingham is looking out of his kitchen window to cold rain pouring down while my daughter, who lives near wellingborough, is watching snow pile up on the road outside her house. I could get used to this 😀. Apparently we have something here called a lockdown but there are plenty of people out shopping and the traffic is at its normal level. The only thing I can see that is closed are the coffee shops. Oh well...

It's fine while the sun shines (except at night when you're indoors, of course). Looks like some more "weather" arriving this week!

I heard towards the end of last month that there is a polar vortex ocurring around mid-January bringing cold weather to the UK. I haven't heard anyone mention it since. There also had to be a wobble on the jet stream, maybe the wobble didn't happen. The weather in parts of Europe have been different, ie heavy snow last week in Madrid. We have torrential rain arriving tonight followed by snow. Is it colder than normal in Portugal right now?

It's warming up in the Algarve this week. I get my cavity walls insulated on Friday, too late for the very cold spell which is on it's way out.

So how is that done with Portuguese building structure, with the concrete pillars?
Or did you have the exterior insulation boards fitted?

They will obviously inject into the cavity between the brick courses only which is the majority of the exterior walls. The reinforced concrete framework will remain uninsulated.unfortunately.

Welcome, Sportpix. I lived and worked in HK more years ago than I care to remember - fab place. I remember the cold winters and the wind straight out of Mongolia - it can feel just as bad here, and winter goes on for about a month longer. Like your wife, I don't 'do' cold, so I sympathise. Lagos is too near the main Atlantic for me - windy! We are sticking to the East Algarve - still pretty chilly, but definitely more sheltered.

According to the BBC, Lagos 17 degrees, where I live 5 degrees with snow and freezing temperatures forecast for the next few days. Getting warmer later in the week, up to 9 degrees, let me dig my shorts and bikini out! Don't forget what a UK winter is like, or summer for that matter.

We had 20 degrees yesterday in the Olhão area of the East Algarve. Going warmer today.
