Default Sim card

I am coming to Portugal for 4 weeks and need a portuguese mobile number. I used to have one but Vodafone deducted every month a standing charge which has now eating up the little credit I had on it. Does anyone know if I can just buy a sim card for a month? I have a dual sim mobile.

You can buy a SIM at the airport. PAYG through UZO is an option and can be topped up via ATMs or online.

IIRC call cost is just under 10c a minute and uses the MEO network. Other companies offer PAYG too....

Nother suggestion is to order online a sim from Smarty in UK before you leave.
A `monthly rolling contract`, just register card on line and pay for what you want.eg £10 will get you 40gb data (in UK) and unlimited free phone calls and texts.(data would be limited in PT, but you would get a text message to tell you) but nevertheless for a 4 week trip you shouldn`t have any problems. On roaming it will give you options on who to connect with in PT which can be useful.
I have used superdrug sim in the past and works just like smarty,,,,best bit is that you get to call PT numbers and UK in the deal !!
Worth getting even if you dont use it, as far as in future is concerned if you decide you dont wantg it you just stop the auto renew and you are charged no more.

It depends what you want it for.

If just to receive Portuguese calls then any free PAYG SIM (inc vodafone ) would do.

If for calls and data then a UK SIM would do, there are still some that don't charge for roaming Lebara, Lyca etc
