Thought we were going to buy another property but unfortunately this has fallen through. We have furniture etc in storage but need to dispose of. Does anyone out there <snip> know where we can sell the items.

I understand that the rule against ads exists and whoever creates / maintains the Forum is perfectly entitled to set their own rules.
What I find difficult to understand is what the purpose of the rule is, exactly?
What harm would arise from there being a section ( within the Portugal pages ) in which people could, if they wished, offer to sell / buy / give away used items ?
I see there is a generalised classified ads section but it is totally useless as it has no geographical separation.

I thought the purpose of these forums was to be useful? If the OP hasn't complained about private messages trying to purchase her furniture, I really don't see the problem. Perhaps the 'rules' could do with some subtle amendment to be a little more pragmatic?

I can’t even open the private messages people are sending me the moderator has blocked the facility. so im completely stuck all I’m trying to do is see if I can buy some furniture for a house I bought last week. I’ve tried adding my Facebook and Skype details but I still fail to understand why there are rules like this to make it impossible to have any conversation. I’m new here and can’t fathom how
To do this or how to Ammed my profile to make it complient. It’s so frustrating

No, the moderator HASN'T blocked you using the PM system, it's only there for people who have made 3 or more meaningful posts, which, at the moment, you have not made. This is a rule brought in to stop people just joining BE to send spam messages.

Why does it need modifying? Use the Classifieds. That's what it's there for. You then put the link in your profile.

I also find the BE classified useless due to the lack of regional specific categories. I never even look there, because when I did 95% of items were more than 1,000 kilometers from my location.

It could be a very useful resource if that could be resolved.
