Clearly it's no use just physically removing the transponder because then things default to number plate recognition, and the money still comes out of my linked bank account if the new owner zips down the motorway.

I can log in to via verde and Viaturas e Identificadores seems the place to go. Then the options are remover matrícula and desativar identificador. I'm not clear which of these (maybe neither!) is the one to choose.

This must be a common situation, but I don't recall it being raised before on the forum.

Loafing Along

Either would seem to serve the purpose :
1. Gets rid of related regisatration
2. Deactivates the transponder

if you are planning to transfer the transponder to another car suggest you go with option 1
