Roadside assistance for car
Hi,
Our car insurance in Portugal only covers roadside assistance if you don't leave Portugal for longer than 3 months.
We left Portugal 4 months ago and when our car broke down, the car insurance did not want to give any assistance. Difficult to find a company that will tow away your car.
We are at the moment in Spain and the car is OK now, but to avoid this in the future, I would like to have a special insurance for roadside assistance without the 3-months limit as an extra on top of our regular car insurance.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Just a thought don't know if it would work,

Re: Roadside assistance for car
We contacted Europ-assitance.pt but they told us we need to be in Portugal on the moment of subscription. We are now in Spain on the way to Portugal.
As soon as we are back in Portugal (hopefully without another brake down of the car ...) we will ask if they have this 90 day limit.
I tried to google RACE but I only see websites in Spain. How can I find info about this?

When you are back in PT I would check the motoring organisations there.
I have not yet sorted that out, being new here.

Thanks!
The 90 day rule for roadside assistance seems to be in all car-contracts!
There are a lot of expats living in Portugal who stay more than 90 days consecutive outside Portugal. We did not know there was this limit.
I was too honest to answer I left Portugal more than 3 months ago.
My only possibility seems to be Europ-assistance to avoid this in the future. The cost when your car brakes down reaches very fast 1,000 EUR: the tow-away company, 2/4 days in a hotel, taxi etc.
I want to avoid this stress next time.

Sorry to jump in here...
last night in the dark and rain I found out my insurance provided assistance does not cover tyres.
Can anyone recommend a well priced PT assistance company that covers breakdowns, onward travel etc? Like the rac?
Many thanks.
