Default Returning for Residency as E.U. citizen ?

Thoughts invited on this situation:

-British citizen gets PT residency pre-Brexit .
-subsequently leaves PT and cancels residency.
- Gets residency in Italy and obtains Italian citizenship.
Any ideas if a return to PT and residency there again would work , now as an Italian citizen?
Or would a previous registration, tax number issuance there and so on make a new registration as a national of a different country make it impossibile.?

AFAIK, an Italian citizen has the right to reside anywhere in EU but has to register presence in any country if there >3 months. I don't see why having had previous residency should be a problem.

Yes I understood same.
Was curious to know if leaving PT under one status and returning with another status is problematic, or if one just picks up from previously after 3 months there.

Did you apply for a post-Brexit resident card as someone protected by the Withdrawal Agreement?

And if so, how long have you been out of Portugal?

(You might still be protected under that agreement and it could be beneficial to keep that status).

Congratulations on becoming an EU national again!

Our Portuguese lawyer said that you can't change the nationality on your residency document but you have deregistered so that doesn't apply to you. You will need to reapply for residency as an Italian national (which is easy as you know) and change the nationality on your numero de contribuinte certificate via a notary.

Thank you. That sounds like the kind of thing I'll need.
