The Portuguese do not seem to have the same sensitivity to noise that we suburban Brits do.
Barking dogs, chainsaws, construction equipment etc are part of daily life at levels that would not be tolerated in the UK.
The positive side is that when I want to use the leaf blower or power wash I will not get gubbins next door complaining that I am disturbing his afternoon nap.

And even Brits tolerate more than other nationalities. In Germany (depending on area) you're not allowed to mow your lawn on a Sunday.

They turn the music down and after a few drinks it goes up again. I don't know if the OP ever lived in a flat before, or terraced house? People who have lived in detached properties will always have problems, unless you just want to get used to it.
Unless you have tried to find an amicable solution, you will never know if one could have been found.

A far as selling without letting prospective buyers know why you are selling; well, that's highly unethical.

Why unethical? Many people sell a property because it doesn't suit them personally. You have choices and if you don't like airport noise, don't buy close to an airport. Some people hate schools, while others would love to be close to one. It just seems to me that the location doesn't suit the OP. You'll always have noise in a Portuguese town.

Having good neighbours is a matter of luck.

Having no neighbours or close neighbours is a matter of choice.

Here endeth the lesson.

Unless of course that empty field next to you is full of cattle during breeding season. At least it's over quickly.

One person suggested: "Put it on the market in the winter when the place is closed and tell your agent not to mention the noise from the restaurant.
It's been done before."

Deliberately hiding a detail about the property is unethical in my view.

WE had dreadful neighbours when we lived in Africa & it drove me nucking futs so I made sure not to repeat that mistake when we came here.

My nearest neighbour is about 50m away & it's a holiday home...... the next nearest is is about 120m away & that suits me just fine.

That's why you would not succeed as an estate agent.

Indeed. The estate agent might say it's a quiet residential area and could be true if you compare to New Delhi. Busy roads are just highlighted as having great infrastructure on your doorstep. The property is nearly falling apart? The estate agent will say "You can add your own personal touch".

What it does prove is not to rush into buying a property before doing really thorough research.
I looked back and could not find any questions from them about the area, location of the property etc.
Agents are notorious for telling you what you want to hear, not what might put you off.
If the resturant owners are Benfica fans expect some long and noisy nights when ever they do well.
Why should we put questions on here about a specific house.
We did research and the area was for us perfect. There was a restaurant next door. We investigated and the place has gone bankrupt years and years ago. We bought in December and the restaurant is rented out again 2 weeks ago.

This is the only restaurant in town with music that you can hear a couple of streets further away.
We put our own music on at that moment and then we don't hear their music anymore.
The houses around us are renovated and they look fabulous. Those owners will be really happy with the new "restaurant" next door. These owners are not here at the moment, but they will find out later!

Closed Restaurants and bars are reopening all over the Algarve, houses being refurbished.
You may be right, not much fun for those who bought when the economy was in dire straights enjoying a few years of peace and quiet.
There was a restaurant open there a few years ago, for all you know it may have been busier or noisier.
There was always a risk that it would reopen , did you factor that into your decision when buying.
Have you accepted that cooking smells from their kitchen could also be an inconvenience.

When we bought next to a restaurant, closed for years, we took the risk that one day it would re-open. So, before buying, we were hours and hours in town to hear the noise of the open restaurants. We passed more than 20 bars and restaurants and the noise was more than acceptable. Nothing to do with the restaurant next door, what is more like a disco.

Where are you, as the season gets under way you can expect the noise levels and traffic, human and vehicular to increase dramatically.
Forums exist to give advice, information etc.
I suggest that if you had said the house you were looking at was in **** and next door to a restaurant, the advice would have been keep looking.
Certainly from those familiar with the area.
Music bars are generally targeted at the younger element and stay open later.
