Default Residency - Sufficient Resources

Hope someone can help with this inquiry. I am a UK citizen considering a permanent move to Portugal, Cascais area. I am a pensioner but do not receive the full UK state pension. I understand there is a requirement, when applying for residency, to show you have sufficient resources so as not to become a burden on the Portuguese state. What monthly income is considered sufficient for this purpose and are there any capital requirements ? Also, if anyone knows the legislation where this information can be found, I would be very grateful.

That would depend on when you plan to move to PT. Before end of 2020, you can apply as EU national and subsistence requirement is met in way of promise on application form. However, if applying as non-EU national, you need to check latest requirement from official immigration website sef.pt. as requirement value keeps changing. Last time I checked it was required to prove you have €40 per day coverage.

This is the link to the SEF - Servicios de Extrangeiros e Fronteiras- website
https://www.sef.pt/en/Pages/conteudo...he.aspx?nID=22

It gives all the necessary information except it does not quote any specific income figure. It says " An Affidavit, declaring that you have sufficient funds for you and for your family, and that you are covered by health insurance when the same applies to Portuguese citizens in your country of origin;".
I believe some sources quote about €1,000,- a month.

As a BTW no one checked our income when we registered a few years ago.

As an EU citizen, of course.
