Due to a change of circumstances how does one go about this as a UK national?

What do you mean ? What residency do you possess which you are contemplating renouncing ?

One would assume Portuguese. The way I read it the op has took out Portuguese residency and now due to a change of circumstances needs to shelve the plan and go back to being a British resident.

Thank you Chislenko. Exactly right. I wish to drop my Portuguese residency that I took out last year.

I googled "Leaving Portugal and Moving On" and Angloinfo seem to cover most of the 'angles' that others have spoken of on here on a piecemeal basis. I would have to assume that getting your UK driver's license back would be straight-forward if you had exchanged it. HTH

I believe I read on DVLA site that one can use a PT (EU) licence in UK if resident there (UK) if it's already been exchanged or too much hassle to change back. Not sure how it would work for renewal though.

I'm pretty sure you can just apply to DVLA to reinstate your UK licence if you return to live there.

My son and his wife have just done it by filling in the appropriate form.
