Re: Quarantine lifted for Portugal
Couldnt make it up.....Returned to UK in March, the day they closed the pubs in England.
Returned to Portugal in July, the day they opened pubs in England.
My 14 day quarantine in UK ends today, just as quarantine removed.
All of these flights booked weeks in advance of any notification
I have a flight booked for 14th Sept to return to Portugal
Is that the day that Portugal will introduce quarantine for Brits going into Portugal???
Advise Brits to avoid travelling to Portugal that day!!!
Should have done Euromillions (in UK of course with no tax)

It didn't say what the reason for the embargo was did it ? Its a mystery to everyone .Finally settled on it being a political one ( our closeness with China and our Governments eagerness to jump whenever the USA tells them to ) or a personal one . (Certain politicians didn't want the infectious mass's coming here and spoiling their holidays) All wild speculation of course The truth is it probable did us all a favour and kept many more infections occurring ,as happened in Malta who had no embargo. Their very few infections quadrupled during the first part of the holiday season .Plus the fact that we have seen zero difference in numbers where we live. The local village is full to bursting as usual. In fact visitors who own villas near to us and have rarely been seen for more than a week a year. have filled it for the last month with family members,

China and the US are on the quarantine list, so I don't thing it is the UK jumping whenever the US tells us.

It was entirely due to the ratio of infections within the population over a given period.

Despite

I have suspected from the outset, that despite the R numbers, there was a political case behind the UK delaying the lifting of restrictions on travel to Portugal. Maybe it's China, maybe something else.
However, I hope we are not going to see a massive influx of tourists from the UK, particularly England, as Portugal does not need an influx of rule breaking loonies. I also hope that Portuguese locals will refrain from travelling to the UK unless absolutely necessary as the British Govt. is way behind Portugal on managing spikes and the virus.

Re: Quarantine lifted for Portugal
So is this the case : that anyone travelling to UK today must quarantine 14 days on arrival, but anyone travelling tomorrow, Sat., need not ?
Does anyone follow the logic which says ' we have now determined that Portugal is safe enough for quarantine not to be necessary - but not until Saturday ? '
I CAN understand, sort of, giving a period of grace before imposing quarantine to allow people to rush back if they wish to avoid it...........But the other way around seems totally illogical.

What makes you say that ? Do you have a link to any document which states that quarantine for visitors from Portugal ends on Sat. ?

Re: Quarantine lifted for Portugal
Any one arriving back in the UK after the restriction is lifted would be exempt from quarantine.
But theoretically if someone arrived just 1 minute before the end of the lifting of the restriction, they must quarantine for the full 14 days.

I suppose if nothing else it does prove the one value of Britons to most countries, the money they spend on holiday!
Very rarely a good word said about them from the rest of Europe but smile while we take their money!
