Are PT residencia certificates geographically transferable?

Can anyone tell me whether this document is transferrable across Portugal, or does it only grant the named individual (me) residency in the named camera/municipality of Oliveira do Hospital. I hope the size is ok to grasp what it is.

Municipality temporary residencia certificate?

I want to move to from mainland PT to Madeira, but I ended up locked down in the UK over the winter, and now I'm waiting for the jab. So I'll be going to Madeira direct from the UK.

I'm actually hoping to use this document if required to return to PT to live for 6 months whilst I hunker down and work remotely there.

I don't know if they are standard across PT. Or even if this document has any magical properties whatsoever. I also have other docs from the Freguesia (Ervedal in Oliveira do Hospital) and a fiscal number.

Thanks, in advance.

I have same and reckon it entitles you to live anywhere. I'm assuming here the islands are the same as mainland. But I believe you need to exchange it for the new biometric card that some of us on here have applied for.

Yes you can use it to get back to Portugal but if you change address you will need an updated version with your new address on, start date will be same as original, don't know what the situation will be once you receive the biometric card.

Thanks EU.Flag for the link. On first and second reading I seem to fall between the cracks. Story of my life.

Did you biometric card arrive? How long did the process take?

Hi - most of us have applied December or early in 2021 and are still waiting for appointment to go and give our biometric bits so that the SEF can then produce the card. There is a hope that they may get round to it by the end of the year!!!! We have stopped holding our breath and carry round the A4 piece of paper which confirms that we have made the appointment REQUEST and that we are therefore legal ... Application can be made on the SEF Brexit website

Re: Are PT residencia certificates geographically transferable?

Thanks for the update. Yeah, I tried to update my details and make an application on the same site. (long story short), it seems that as I am out of PT and returning to a new address in June 2021, I need to wait until I am back before I can make the application for the new card. At least that's what the error message might have been saying...

does it mean 'original start date of residence in PT'?, OR 'start date of residence at new address'. I assume the latter. Any ideas?

Hi there,

Newbie to the forum.

it means the former- original start date of residence in PT. That is the reference your CRUE (5 Year EU Residency Certificate) is baselined against.

I hope this helps.

Re: Are PT residencia certificates geographically transferable?

Yeah, in the end I took the plunge and guessed the former. And I think I am now recognised as having 'made the application' to update my certificate. I received a statement with a QR code looking fiendishly acceptable and which I feel confident to flash at the border. Thanks, all.

Now to shore up the long winded reasons to illustrate for those same authorities any who might question and need validation as to why I have had to stay away from PT longer that the 6 months allowed in any 12 month period. Pandemic plus Brexit = pandemonium.

You may have noticed elsewhere and on another thread here that SEF are being disbanded or at least reduced and various of their duties farmed out to other organisations with the staff possibly being shifted to other departments to carry on the same work, or a mini SEF remaining - anyway as you can imagine the upheaval is not going down well and SEF are taking industrial action, and delays and upcocks in the new admin organisation is SURE to delay our much awaited biometric cards so whatever you do, do not lose your QR code letter. Various of us have changed address, got new IDs (passports) etc and need to update our bits and pieces with SEF/Residency and all of this is on hold until you get called for your biometric appointment - whenvever that may be in the dim distant future. I rather think that your "longer than 6 months" is of little interest to the likes of SEF given the pandemic situation.

So (I didn't realise) SEF officers murdered someone. I was worried they might not think kindly of my overstay in the UK. I think they might have bigger fish to fry than think anything about me.
