Default Post Brexit residence documents

Hi

My partner and I registered our Portuguese residence with SEF at the end of last year and received the online confirmation and certificate but have heard nothing since. Is anyone else in this similar position? We are in the process of buying a property and want to make sure we have no problems later.

Thanks in advance.

Could you elaborate a little please, so we can give responses relevant to your particular scenario.

What nationality are you?

What is the title of the certificate you have been issued?

Hi
We are the British citizens.

It's the certificate issued by SEF in accordance with the Brexit withdraw agreement. We received the certificate when we applied but had no follow from SEF as yet.

Thanks in advance.

Everybody is in the same position with this - we're all waiting to be contacted by email by SEF to let us know about scheduling an appointment, which will be at the nearest Camara Municipal to us offering the service.

As you are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement and have documents to prove it, I'm not sure what problems you might be envisaging.

One thing you should do, having bought the property, is to go to your local Freguesia (village hall rather than town hall) and register your new address with them - presumably you are in rented accommodation or with friends/family and have registered that address?? Eventually of course, you would have to tell SEF about your change of address for your residencia .... no-one seems to be able to get any sense out of SEF while their Department is being re-shuffled, so it seems impossible to do anything about changes (eg some of us have had new passports for ID or moved address since last year and cannot update that info either!).

Otherwise, keep your A4 CRUE (pre-Brexit) and your QR Cert also A4 paper (post-Brexit), with you at all times!

You should also change your address with the Finanças office (you may be able to do that online on the Portal do Finanças) so that your Tax details are kept up to date.

Good luck and welcome to the Forum - do have a look at other threads on the Forum which will help you settle in

Hold on. How many sheets of A4 should we have? What is a CRUE? Not sure I’ve got one of those …

CRUE - Certificado de Registo de Cidadão da União Europeia. We received this from our Câmara when we registered as a resident pre 31 Dec 20.
