Hello fellow members
A friend of ours is going to live over in Carvoeiro & wants to obtain residency in Portugal but the criteria has changed since the UK left the EU & it has apparently become very complicated.
They have been told that they must reside in Portugal for 6 months which i believe is correct but then i am told it becomes a bit hazy as they have been told that they must rent a property for 6 months & have a written contract that then has to be registered at the Fiscal office.
Can anybody shed any light on this please?

Your friend will need to apply in the UK for a visa to enter Portugal with the intent of establishing residence. Details of that and of documentation required, where to apply etc can be found here
Once he has that visa, he will need to make another application within Portugal for the actual permission to reside and acquire accompanying document.
For both, he will need to demonstrate that he has sufficient means to support himself and provide proof of accommodation. The latter doesn't have to be a rental contract but one of those would do. The business about its being registered just means it has to be a proper official contract and not an under the table letting for cash.
Once he has established himself with a residence permit, he will need to observe the allowed absences criteria so as not to lose the right to live here.
