Re: Portugal and the Third World
So now we're reduced to sarcastic insults.
You are the one who is using these articles to support your arguement. So it is you that needs to be specific.
Can you find one quote where a Portuguese author uses the actual words "third world" to describe their own country? If you can then I will shut up and go away!

Re: Portugal and the Third World
The discussion is being ruined with the silly and fruitless back biting between several of you that has become too personal so please refrain and discuss the subject, respect each others views and leave the childish stupidity alone. Failing the ability to act like adults could result in more than the thread being closed so that the forum remains a peaceful place for people to gain information and have educated discussions which people outside of the country will enjoy reading.

Re: Portugal and the Third World
The articles I quoted are in Portuguese, written by Portuguese, on Portuguese websites and most of them even have Third World (Terceiro Mundo) in the title. However, it really doesn't matter because you have already interrupted another conversation with your pronouncements. Cheers
+ These articles have all been published in PT Daily Press

Re: Portugal and the Third World
"Third world" is kind of abstract term, it's not a strict definition. I don't understand why you guys fighting on this.
I know some people who believe that "First world" ends when you're out of the TFL's first zone of London :-) Joke
I spent some time in Ecuador and I can say nowadays development of Portugal and Ecuador are comparable in many spheres of life.
Ecuador made a big step in development in recent 30 year as well, but for sure Portugal is way more developed.
You can't describe all different ways of development in just first/third world term. That's why it may sound insulting for someone and normal for others.
You have different things in mind.
Just try to define status of Russia :-)
