Sorry can't see what is wrong in watching UK TV in all the counties of Europe. I would willingly pay for Sky, etc. for their programmes, and so would many hundreds of thousands, all over Europe. (And not all British). All one has to do re licences etc. is change UK to EU. Sorry that's not too hard. Or is it that most other EU countries have very poor home grown TV, and don't want a better alternative? Anyone name a world wide Spanish, French, Swiss programme?

Well the fun could start sooner than expected if the launch of the new Sat planned for September goes ahead without any problems.
Give them a couple of months to get things sorted and UK TV as we currently know it may not be available for many of us by Christmas.

If you see the ripoffs by the BBC management, I have no problemas in watching UK progs in Portugal.

Ripoffs or not I don’t have any moral issues either watching programmes abroad via the net, what I find puzzling is how they can do it. A lot of people have gone to extreme lengths to ensure the rest of Europe is cut off from UK telly, I’m attaching a post I found about a guy claiming to have worked with SES, post dates around April:

I'm an Italian professional satellite engineer and I deal with people from SES-ASTRA , both commercial and technical guys .
They were asked to cut out as many as possible English speaking countries owing to broadcasting rights which is a very delicate topic.
When Astra 2F was moving footprint up / down - east / west after having been launched (and operational ) , they were testing true reception as theoretical footprint is not always the needed one . In UK these small drifts did no effect.
So SES keep testing until a month ago ( or so) .
The result : In Lucca ( Central-Northern Italy ) you need a 3M professional dish for a 1 db margin reception.
In Denmark not less than 1.8 M or a little larger dish ,for a similar small margin .
I'm afraid that people from SES ASTRA got what they were looking for .
From Northern Italy to Central Italy in 230 Km (moving South) , signal is dropping down 1 db every 30 km .
It's a very sharp edge.
I hope Astra 2 E won't be worse.

All that trouble and we all can watch TV online as we please? Where is the catch? It’s clearly a step down (at least for me it is as I much preferred the convenience of the TV and remote instead of cumbersome tablets software cables and the like..), but still, is better than a kick in the teeth. If they wanted to, how difficult would be for them to have these websites shut down?

whatever you may think about the problem it is all about syndicated national rights

there is a guy on the Canaries who is openly advertising his ability to provide access to the footie for the coming season on the basis of the Saudi regional agreement - because that also cover Morroco.!

those who take feeds for one area and then leak it out to other areas are not only endangering their agreement but also the over riding agreement for a whole area of the world - which could quite easily be terminated.

perhaps some people should be wary of men with long curved knives hidden in their clothing
