Obtaining Portuguese residency as a parent of EU nationals
Has anyone moved to Portugal as a non-EU parent via their EU-citizen child(ren)?I’m British, moving with my kids, and looking at the route where the parent applies for residency as the primary carer of an EU minor, rather than D7/D8.If you’ve done this (or tried), I’d love to hear:How it went in practiceWhat evidence mattered mostAny surprises or pitfalls

Re: Obtaining Portuguese residency as a parent of EU nationals
Can you give a bit more info as to how your children have EU citizenship but you don't?
I'm thinking your spouse is an EU citizen and they already had children? |
Re: Obtaining Portuguese residency as a parent of EU nationals
Hi, the children's mother is an EU citizen (not from Portugal) so they have dual nationality. We are now separated so the move to Portugal means I'd need to apply for residency as the parent of EU children.

Do children posses EU passports? If not, this needs to be your first step.
Then you need to apply with aima, paragraph K) of item 1, article 122 of Law no. 23/2007, dated July 4. https://files.dre.pt/StaticContent/Lei_23_2007_EN.pdf aima.gov.pt |

Thank you, yes they do. I'm aware of the process. I'm particularly interested to hear experiences of anyone who has actually done it in Portugal.

Experiences will vary from office to office.
Dont understand what experiences are you expecting to hear. Dealing with aima is never a walk in park. |
Re: Obtaining Portuguese residency as a parent of EU nationals
It seems that often the process on the website only covers half of what people have to navigate in reality. The office to office variance is an interesting aspect, thank you for raising it, and this is exactly the kind of experience I am hoping to hear about from others who have navigated the process. It is likely that I will be applying in Coimbra. In my original post I asked specifically: How it went in practice? What evidence mattered most? Any surprises or pitfalls?

The office to office variance is an interesting aspect, thank you for raising it, and this is exactly the kind of experience I am hoping to hear about from others who have navigated the process and can share the parts of the process which were not clear or documented upfront. For example, in my original post I asked: How it went in practice? What evidence mattered most? Any surprises or pitfalls?
Ps. We are likely to be applying in Coimbra. |
