Thanks for that; I suppose I should give it it's own thread, just to see if anyone makes a comment.

To add another painful assault on my ears this morning

CLEANERS...No problem with them in the past, they do a difficult and often not too pleasant job..Our problems began when the two rentals next door employed a new gang, from goodness knows where? they don't speak a language we recognise

Does anyone know why a vacuum cleaner would need banging sharply and LOUDLY on the tile floor , exactly THREE TIMES every few minutes? Starting at 8.30 am every saturday of the season this peculiar noise goes on for the two hrs it takes them to clean two villa's.Is this some new fangled noise maker for hell I missed at Worton's?
Or have the owners stooped so low and are so cheap as to employ cleaners from a country so poor they have to bring their own equipment with them, and they are all hand made .from wood Any suggestions welcome

When I read posts such as yours it confirms that our decision not to have our villa built in an area with lots of rental proprties was the right one.
Friends in Albufeira like you do not look forward to the arrival of holiday makers, screaming children, shouting parents, loud music and general noise from morning until sometimes the early hours.
We can live with the dogs, chickens ,turkeys and occaisional very noisy Portuguese family party, even the nearby Brit who thinks he can play an electronic piano and sing .

This all sounds horrendous. Is the whole of Portugal like this? I would hate to retire in an area where my neighbours dogs were barking 24 hours a day!

Ha! Chris&Steve..Don't worry it's more about expectations and realities of life anywhere.Dogs bark in the UK as well I believe .Depends entirely where you live

I think in my case it's total selfishness as well:o i have perfect peace and tranquility for 10 months of the year. In Paradise ! That I get bent out of shape when people dare to want to share it is perhaps understandable . I do need reminding every now and again of how privileged I am.My American friends did that last night whilst we sat on the patio looking at the blue moon :o

weeeell !! Always good to check that out before you buy!!

Friends of ours reported that friends of theirs were a bit 'sniffy' about the location of their choice of house and said they preferred to be away from it all and the 'Tourists' and had therefore rented a house they intended to buy up in the hills.

They met up with them a couple of weeks later to find them both bleery eyed from lack of sleep.Their perfect house turned out to be next door to a kennels!!

NOISE!!! We've new audio filth through the WHOLE night.
I KNEW I was way too 'proud' in my earlier Post about soothing winds and such here on the banks of the Rio Formosa... I'm almost in tears from lack of sleep and body soreness from tossing and turning.
THE NIGHTCLUB in Manta Rota....OMG...noooo, OMG REALLY? Thump, thump, thump, pause, then a hundred (thousand?) trilling voices singing along out loud and stamping their nasty feeties to the rhythm of the: thump, thump, thump. They start at 22h30 and stop playing the music at exactly 05h00. Is this really allowed? I'm ready to drop-kick puppies and slap babies in their prams. Gosh, can you imagine being the poor tourist who unsuspectingly rented their holiday flat ANYwhere in Manta Rota.
We are 6km by car...2-3km by beach walk to this Gormora of a village. I'm exhausted and it's only 09h30 in the morning... Oh how could I forget ALL, every damn dog for 40 miles barked in annoyance to the thump, thump, thump. I have a bad feeling that this 'music' will play every night all summer. me quite unhappy today.

I am joining you in hell Munster..Only mine is during the day now..The family from Hell (or rather Yorkshire) has moved in next door. Their idea of civilised behaviour on their first morning in the Algarve and our 'quiet' residential estate 'was to start 'water bombing) games at 8am (on a Sunday morning),accompanied by ear slitting screams and shouts that would have stood out at Alton Towers. The parents were actually worse than the kids.It became patently obvious as the morning wore on that they were already pretty drunk. We had to close all doors and windows and retire inside. It didn't seem to dawn on them that they were the only ones making this din in the entire area..or maybe and most likely they didn't give a damn..as so many Brits do not these days..Strengthened my resolve to be otherwhere this time next year

Think about getting one of those airb+b places in a quiet residential area back in Blighty next summer...

I was mowing 3 hours today with the BIG mower, then 2 hours with the strimmer. Whoops, was it Sunday?

Re: NOISE!!!

Oh liveboard.., not on Sunday really? But you are remote its ok.., but in village life one should be respectful of other folks and allow peace n quiet one day a week yes?

Re: NOISE!!!

We have some neighbors; they all work 7 days a week too. I've failed to observe anyone in the area making a difference for Sunday.
You can hear the BIG mower for quite a distance I guess...

Back when I used to work on my steel ship in the middle of a major European city, I was constantly bombarded by complaints from the neighbors. My local mate would just shrug them off; "The work has to get done." he'd say,
Of course we did observe the timing.
Police used to come by;
"What are you guys doing, we got a noise complaint!"
"Working, sir."
"Oh, that's all right." they'd say.
That's changed now, all work has been made illegal in Europe.
That's why we moved out to the Portuguese countryside, to try to get away with it.

Hmmmm Liveaboard Sooo glad I don't live near you then

Most people WORK in one way or another.i think people in a civilised society need to rely on at least one day of the week when they can relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. We try very hard to co-ordinte our 'noisy' jobs with others doing theirs during the week.If the neighbours gardener is strimming the hell out of all the bushes ,we will shred our kitchen and garden waste at the same time etc.
I can understand if it's harvest and jobs like using the combine or the cherry picker are bound by season and weather..but..do you REALLY have to do those jobs on a Sunday Live? I hope you at least wait until midday?
