NHR Portugal - Social Security Contributions?

Hello, I'm new on here and would like some help please.

My partner and I are relocating to Portugal from the UK soon and will hopefully be accepted for NHR. My question is, do people under retirement age have to pay Portuguese social security under this scheme? We will not be working in Portugal and all our income will be from the UK.

Many thanks in advance.

Depends.

If the income is derived from employment, then yes. If it's pension, investments or rental income, then no.

Thanks for your reply, that is very helpful.

Does any one know what happens after ten years when the NHR expires? Do the same rules apply re social security contributions?

Thanks Eric, I look forward to joining in on the forum. I'm afraid in my case, it will be more questions than answers at the moment! There is so much to learn.
