Re: New Sky Viewing Card
Wish I did No you can buy in Uk or some shops in Portugal (but guess what twice the price in Portugal) in uk from £45 and HD box about £120
you get all the same free channels!!!! No cards and better performance than sky, using the same dish cable etc and same 28.2 east.

Re: New Sky Viewing Card
OK getting a bit worried now we sold our house that the viewing card is registered to but carried on paying the subscription, no doubt the new owner has their own Sky subscription so they will probably get 2 cards. I very much doubt I will be able to get mine from them, what will happen if I do not use a new card is there going to be a period of time after it has been issued that it will work and then will it go to FTA channels ?? Not sure what to do.

Re: New Sky Viewing Card
We are moving to Portugal end of August, and are renting a house. We have just informed us that we will not be allowed to have a satellite dish installed. So do you have any kind of Freeview out there? We are going to be climbing the walls without any form of English TV !!!!!!

Re: New Sky Viewing Card
The only other possibility is using a sling-box on your system in the UK. This allows you to view your own Sky Box via the internet but I don't really think thats a viable long term solution. If its that important then you will have to move to a place you can erect a dish.

Re: New Sky Viewing Card
Freeview isn't picked up via a satellite dish, it's terrestrial digital tv, through an aerial + set top box?
Possibly confused with Freesat/Free to Air channels
Portugal has launched their equivalent of Freeview, don't think it covers the whole country yet though and neither do I know what frequency (not sure if that's the right terminology) it's on. I know in Spain some of the UK Freeview boxes work but not all. Needs investigating I think as PT tv is dire.
Right, just found a website, Dec 2010 will cover whole country...western algarve to be last on the roll out...
The software delivery shall rely on DVB-SSU [12] enhanced profile.
Additionally, the following parameters shall be used:
• Original network id : 0x22C8
• Network ID:
• Mainland : 0x3401 – channel 67 - 838-846 MHz
• Autonomous Region of Madeira : 0x3402 - channel 67 - 838-846 MHz
• Autonomous Region of Azores : 0x3403
o Island of S. Jorge - channel 47 - 678-686 MHz
o Island of Pico - channel 56 - 750-758 Mhz
o Islands of S. Miguel and Graciosa – channel 61 - 790-798 MHz
o Island of the Faial - channel 64 - 814-822 MHz
o Islands of Terceira, S. Maria, Flores and Corvo – channel 67 - 838-846 MHz
Whether that helps anyone I have no idea!
Here is the website:
http://tdt.telecom.pt/
Here is where the transmitters have already been turned on...
• Alto do Galeão (Darque – Viana do Castelo)
• Leiranco (Chaves)
• Monte da Virgem (Porto)
• Mangualde
• Penedo da Saudade (Coimbra)
• Trancão (Torres Novas)
• Sintra
• Monsanto (Lisboa)
• Benfica (Lisboa)
• Caparica
• Volta da Pedra (Palmela)
• Alto de São Pedro (Évora)
• São Miguel (Faro)
• Pico do Galo (Madeira)
• Barrosa (Açores – São Miguel)
Says on the website you need a UHF aerial and tv which has compatible freeview built in or a decoder compatible with the Portuguese Terrestrial Digital TV which is MPEG-4/H.264
Trouble is, after all this it appears they will only have the national channels for free, one possibly being in HD. Woo hoo!

Re: New Sky Viewing Card
Who said you cant have a dish ???? The Landlord ???
You need Freesat not freeview, freeview will only work in UK.
Have been here for nine years and without Uk tv would have gone back 9 years ago.
