Foreign children Portuguese after two years - The Portugal News
Was a bit ambiguous in previous reports, but this does seem to clarify that foreign kids, even those born overseas, gain PT nationality automatically just be being resident for 2 years. My wife is an immigration lawyer, we have two kids and have been residence nearly 5 years, so we should be trying this out in the next few months. Also, adults can now apply for citizenship after 5 years residency rather than 6.

From the article in the link above........."residents from Portuguese-speaking countries will no longer be required to complete a language proficiency test".
So unless you have a Zaire, Angolan or Mozambique passport then you would have to do a language test.

You do not need to pass a language test if you are married to a Portuguese citizen.

Re: New citizenship rules
Has anyone on this forum actually applied for Portuguese citizenship through marriage or know of anyone who has successfully applied? I have the relevant Application Form and I am gradually getting together all the necessary supporting documents. Obviously it makes sense to have all the English documents translated into Portuguese using a certified translator. However, some people I have spoken with claim it is also necessary to have all docs in English translated into Portuguese by a Translator certified by the Portuguese Consulate and they should also be legalised. Obviously all this adds to the cost and I am wondering whether someone is trying to inflate the process in order to earn additional fees!! The notes attached to the Application Form only refer to the need for the applicant's birth certificate to be legalised. Does anyone have any experience of this?
