Its standard wait 3-4 weeks for card issue by SEF. Card will be valid for 5y if applicant has less then 5y of residence. Dates on card refer to card validity, not status, just like driving lic does.
Card has wording printed : "tipo de título: temporária"
There should be also comment under which law act was issued.

I think you have to 'join' each to see the group/comments, but that's straight-forward enough.

Re: New biometric Cards - Trial process underway
Some worrying info coming back from those who received new WA card.
Temporary 5y cards are being issued to those who have over 5y of residence. They should been given 10y Permanente.
Also, some report that when they got 5y card, their data on SEF brexit portal now shows residence start date as from card issue date!
Incompetence strikes again. I am so glad they didn't roll it out at same time to mainland.

SEF has signed contract with Cascais City Council to collect biometric data of British citizens!!! From SEF fb:
BREXIT: Protocol signing between SEF and Cascais City Council to collect biometric data
The Foreign and Border Service (SEF) today signed with Câmara Municipal de Cascais a protocol of cooperation in the field of documentation of British citizens benefiting from the Exit Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom read the terms of orderly exit from the UK from The European Union, in accordance with Article 50 the Treaty of the European Union (hereafter, Agreement).
The project aims to collect biometric data and renew documentation of British citizens and respective family members covered by the Agreement. We remind you that about thirty thousand British citizens have already registered on the Brexit Portal.
Within the scope of this protocol, the Municipality of Cascais makes available the necessary facilities and human resources that will proceed to serve and collect biometric data. SEF is in turn responsible for training the Town Chambers employees and providing necessary computer support and structures for the process. Covered British citizens will be notified by SEF to turn up at Cascais City Hall premises for service.
The certificate with the QR code, which can be downloaded from the Portal, remains an official document of residence in Portugal under the Exit Agreement and is valid until the new card is issued, as well as current Union residence documents EUROPE IS GOING ON TOO be accepted for travel purposes, from within validity, until new residence card is issued.

Re: New biometric Cards - Trial process underway
Just looked at the SEF Facebook post - it is remarkably useless for information as to how the 30,000+ Brexit WA people are supposed to take this. Is it just for those resident in the Cascais area? Is everyone going to block the phone lines to Cascais camara to get more information? If the necessary technical equipment has to be installed and staff specially trained then perhaps it is indeed the case that SEF will NOT be doing the biometrics across the country, but just in one perceived central spot in Cascais? I can see folk from the Algarve and Viana do Castelo being well-impressed with that! Bad enough for everyone except for Lisbon-based folk to get to ... How difficult should it be to take a photo and a signature, and perhaps finger prints? They have had 2+ years to get this sorted out!!
Interesting that Safe Communities have not posted about this news as yet ... nor has Portugal News?

Re: New biometric Cards - Trial process underway
I remember reading at the beginning of this whole process that SEF said that the Camaras / town halls would do the biometrics for Brexit WA people, not SEF and they (SEF) would train them and give them the equipment (and it wouldn't be all Camaras, just some / a few). I assume that this is just the first Camara to sign up and agree to do it, and presumably, other Camaras will be added soon. But who knows!
I would hope (pray) that there would be at least 20+ Camaras across Portugal that would be doing it, otherwise it'd take forever.
At least there is some news / movement...!

Re: New biometric Cards - Trial process underway
So Brits in Portugal have not posted confirmation on Facebook that it does only apply to Cascais residents - so the rest of us continue, as we were, folks ... waiting.

Re: New biometric Cards - Trial process underway
I saw this which was posted on the Madeira Group (for Brits) on Facebook earlier today. A lady had her appointment with SEF today and went through the new Brexit-Residency Card process (had her photo & fingerprints taken, and the card will be sent to her 'soon') - and she detailed the process (below). Her appointment only took 5 mins, so it's all pretty quick, and it seems relatively straight-forward. I thought it might be useful for people on this group, so i'm copy/pasting it here:
~~Process for Brexit-Biometric Residence Cards
The whole process took no longer than 5 minutes per person and was pretty straightforward. In Funchal the appointment was at Balcao 16 - as you enter the building immediately turn right and then left. At the end, Balcao 16 is on your right. Let someone know you have arrived - give them your name and time of appointment and they will call you up. They will ask for:
To pay, you will then need to go back online at https://brexit.sef.pt/en/ and log on (the same way you did when booking your appointment). Then, instead of clicking the appointment icon (looks like a calculator), click on the icon with the Euro symbol. Click on your name and then on the date. It will then pull up a blank payment document. Click on the yellow icon next to the words 'Payment Document DUC'. You will be asked to confirm the details are correct. Click the Save Icon (computer disk) and then the Payment document will be populated with all the necessary details. There doesn't seem to be a way of printing this off so take either a screenshot or a photo of the document which gives you the Payment Reference.
Payment can be made 48 hours after the document is issued via Multibanco ATM or online banking; you will need to state the reference number when making the payment.
They can't say how long the cards will take to be issued since it is a new process and they have only just started doing them.
Fee is €15 (or €18 - there seems some confusion about it)

Hope you don't mind me asking but how do I get a Health Number (numero utente) ?
